Biography of Daddy Yankee

Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, better known as Daddy Yankee, is a singer and songwriter of urban reggaetón and music, actor, cinematographic producer, radio announcer and Puerto Rican businessman who was born in Rio Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico, on February 3 1977.

Who is Daddy Yankee?

Daddy Yankee is still one of the biggest influences in the music industry with more than 11 million albums sold and more than 38 million followers through their social networks. Named one of the world's most influential Hispanics by CNN and Time Magazine, he has enjoyed a successful career that has taken him from 2013 to the present on a world tour of Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

His entrepreneurial empire also continues to grow with his production company El Cartel Records, the Los Cangris Music Publishing firm, and a film company that produced "Talento de Barrio," starring himself. The soundtrack to this film sold more than one million copies around the world, reaching the first place in the list of Latin musical successes of Billboard.



His latest single "Sígueme y te sigo" has reached number one on the Billboard magazine's list of most popular Latin songs. In this 2015 Daddy Yankee premiered as "Coach" in Voice Kids in the United States, program that obtained the first place in hearing during its season.

Personal life and family of Daddy Yankee

In 1994, when she was 17 years old, she married Mireddys González. The couple has three children: Yamilet, Jeremy and Jesairis. During his career, he has avoided discussing private life in interviews.

He has stated that he prefers to remain silent because he considers his family a treasure. However, in 2006, he made an exception when he spoke about his relationship with his wife and children in an interview with María Celeste Arrarás in Al Rojo Vivo. Also describes as "very close" communication with their children, and when can talk to them about the dangers of drugs. His first daughter was born when he was 17, and described that it was confusing at first to have a child at that age.

The artistic name of Raymond Ayala has the following meaning: "Daddy" is a term that is used like papi or papá; Yankee because in Puerto Rico this term is used to denote something big and strong, being "Big Daddy" the meaning of his stage name.

Also throughout his career has been called by various names other than Daddy Yankee, in the 90's he was nicknamed Yankee Man, Yankee, Winchesta Yankee & The 30-30. In the new millennium he was nicknamed El Carabina, and for his gangster haircut was nicknamed El Cangri, remained with that nickname until 2005 when he became The Boss, shortly after in 2006 urban artist De La Ghetto Christened The Big Boss. Popularly, the people, media and artists of all kinds of music put him The king of reggaeton. In the decade of 2010 the fans and the artists baptized him like the Maximum Leader and he was placed "Daddy Yankee Is not a Singer, Daddy yankee Is A Movement". Currently every time he collaborates with a prestigious artist, they call themselves Prestige Boy'z.

Musical Trajectory

Daddy Yankee began his career under the Dream Team label, but after money problems and differences he retired. From that moment he founded his own company El Cartel Producción's (not to be confused with El Cartel Records, since it began in 2004 and El Cartel Produccions in 1997), in which he recorded several albums, and merged with Guatauba's Production of Manolo Guatauba, for distribution of his albums, but after having problems with this one, created its first recorder Los Cangris, Inc., next to Nicky Jam, and its distributor was Pina Records and VI Music. When they antagonized Yankee & Nicky, they dissolved it and that's when he created El Cartel Records. The first notable album with this label was "Barrio fino", of 2004. The albums that has released with this label are Barrio fino, 2004; Barrio fino en directo, 2005; "Bigger Than You", 2006; The poster: "The Big Boss", 2007; "The heir", 2008; "Talento de barrio", 2008; "Bastard: Gerry Capo" (Lionize), 2010, Mundial, 2010 and Prestige, 2012. Cartel Records has collaborated with music majors such as 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, G-Unit, Pharrell Williams and many more. He has also had distributors to sell his albums, these were UMG, Interscope Records, Machete Music, VI Music, Pina Records, Sony Music, EMI 40 and Capitol Records.
